Blue Monday

MellowYellowMondayBadge

http://smilingsally.blogspot.com

As I was cleaning this morning it dawned on me that I hadn't posted anything for Blue Monday yet. So I decided to go ahead and try to throw up a post and join in on the party. Today I'd like to share one of my favorite pictures from around the house. I picked this up at a garage sale for $2 - I love that the paint is chipping on it - reminds me of something old no matter what the age of it may really be.

Check out that yard full of blue and yellow flowers in from of that lovely house!

It wasn't much this week - I am uber busy trying to catch up on a lot of things plus getting ready for a party this weekend. Hope you all have a Happy Blue Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday.

Happy Thrifting!

Black Friday, Goodwill and more

I'm joining Bloggeritaville for Thrifty Thursday.

I told my family members I must need my head checked. I actually went out on Black Friday. However, I didn't leave the house until 9 a.m. so I had less chance of getting trampled to death (I actually heard of that happening last year.) I was lucky enough to find the things I was looking for though - two pairs of pajamas for the kids from the WalMart $3 sale and two leapster games ($11 minus the $4 IP coupons) and a Cootie game for the kids from the Target sale. I just wish they would have had some of the items that are on my kids wishlist this year in the sale but unfortunately they didn't.

On the way out of town I couldn't resist a stop by Goodwill. I found DD a skirt for $1.99 and my other two buys as shown below. . .

I found this leather Polo bag for $3.99 - funny thing it had a sticker on the inside that said $435. I wonder if that was what it actually cost brand new????

DD is my lovely model today and is showing off my ceramic pumpkin basket I bought for fall next year and a grand total of .99.

Finally, the best thing of all - my kids jumping on a trampoline that a dear friend of ours gave to us. Total - FREE and PRICELESS - gotta love it.

Unfortunately, the hadn't gave us the chance to get the safety net up yet - they were so excited they just had to get on. Please ignore my SIL's mobile home in the back - LOL - it wanted to be pictured too.

Happy Thrifting everyone.

Thanksgiving Pumpkins

Today I had to go out and run a couple of last minute errands - like I'm sure most of you do. While at WalMart I noticed they had all their Thanksgiving stuff marked down. So for $2 each I picked up these great pumpkins for next years decor.

To everyone out there in blog-land I'd like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thrifting!

Pink Saturday and Rednesday

This blog is going to be part of three blog parties. Pink Saturday and also It's a Very Cherry World and lastly Wordless Wednesday

Beverly is doing themes this month for Pink Saturday and asked us to share a holiday memory. My one big holiday memory was the in the years after my dad passed away. With everything going on I don't believe my mom was in the shape financially or emotionally to celebrate holidays but some good friends of hers came through and made sure we had a holiday to remember. I still remember all the wooden cradles and swings I received for my dolls and wish to this day I knew what happened to them.

Today I would like to share pictures from last years Christmas parade in our hometown. It reminds me that that time is coming around again.

For my pink contribution - how about a couple little girls in pink catching candy.

Happy Thrifting.

Blue Monday & Mellow Yellow Monday

MellowYellowMondayBadge

http://smilingsally.blogspot.com

I'm running a little behind in posting this thanks to my washing machine tearing up on me this morning and having to dip all the water out by hand.

Last week another Blue Monday participant decided to show off Smurfs as their contribution and it gave me the idea to do the same. I collect 80's smurf figurines - even though they are very hard to find except for ebay. Sometimes, though luck is with me and I come across some. Here are three smurfs to share with everyone.

I found the two holiday smurf on Shopgoodwill and the rollerskate Smurfette came from a grab box purchased at a garage sale for $1

Going to share some of my pink garage sale finds with everyone today.

This Avon girl I found on a clearance table at a flea market for .25

I found 3 of these plates at a garage sale for .10 each

Foodie Friday

Joining Foodie Friday

Tonight I had planned on cooking pork chops, okra and tomatoes and squash. However, DH had other plans. In he walks with a big bag containing something we Cajuns love to eat.

BOUDIN!!!!

What goes best with boudin in my opinion - sweet tea. But when you don't have any made the next best thing . . .

Ice cold Coca Cola Classic.

Here is a link I found on the web that explains boudin and how it's made - enjoy!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Believe it or not I finally broke down and started decorating for Christmas. I was in the attic last week storing my Halloween buys from the clearance sales and decided since I was already up there I might as well toss my Christmas stuff down (gently that is). Once down though it was in the way so I made another decision - go ahead and start putting it up. I've still got to take the time to take some better pictures once I get the kids well again. DD is still fighting the cough and now DS is home from school vomiting and running fever. You might as well figure once one gets sick everyone else is going to get it too.

I ordered this sweet angel from LTD a few years ago. Her wings flap and light up different colors. I had originally planned to put her on the tree but she is way too big so I just leave her on a table.

All of these came from the 75% sales a few years back

I found my nutcracker music box for $1 this year at a garage sale this summer. My little squirrel I purchased last year at WalMart. He sings "I'm getting nut-thing for Christmas." I purchased two of these snow-globes a few years back when they were popular - of course I waited until the 75% sales.

I'm going to try to get a better picture of my tree and post later. My decor isn't as sophisticated as I'd like and I still have a lot I want to add to my decor - gives me something to look for during the garage sales this summer.

Also I found out today that I'm going to be cooking Thanksgiving dinner for DH, myself and the kids. We normally go over to his mom's - which we still will be doing this year - but his mom has decided instead of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner they'll be Bar-B-Quing - who does that on Thanksgiving day???? To me Thanksgiving is turkey with dressing and lots of delicious pies and side dishes. So now this week I'm going to be on the lookout for a good Dressing recipe so we can have a delicious Thanksgiving supper.

Two Friends Keeping Warm

Wordless Wednesday

It's been cold here in Louisiana today and when I walked out on my porch this is what I found. Now aren't they sweet.

A Cold Garage Sale

I'm going to join two parties today. I'm joining Bloggeritaville for Thrifty Thursday.

Since I found a pretty blanket with a lot of red in it I'm going to participate in Rednesday at It's a Very Cherry World

Last night my MIL tells me about her niece having a garage sale today and tomorrow. If you read my blog a lot you may know the story of her - if not - she buys storage units that don't get paid for and resells the stuff. It was at one of her garage sales where I found my Gone with the Wind lamp that I love so much.

So after much debate I finally decided to go check it out this morning. Why the debate? Because, baby, it was cold outside - LOL. Mid 40's - which for us in Louisiana is stay inside weather.

Here's what I ended up with for braving the cold.

I really enjoyed the title of the book on the right. $2.50 for both

I bought these 4 plates to match the ones I got a few months ago $2

I bought this quilt/blanket for $1 - I figured it would be great to throw over one of my couches - until I can afford new couches I'm always looking for ways to cover them up.

Happy Thrifting!

Making a Change

Joining in on Three or more Tuesday at The Gypsy's Corner - for my quilt featuring three or more quilt blocks.

So this morning I finally broke down and decided to hang a quilt rod that I had given to me at a garage sale. It's been sitting in my bedroom collecting dust for a little while.

So I changed the wall behind the loveseat from this . . .

to this . . .

This Sunbonnet Sue quilt was given to my mom for me before I was born and has stayed with me all these years. I may eventually change up if I find another quilt but for now I think I might keep her up.

What do you think?

Happy Thrifting!!

Sunday in the E.R.

This is also going to be part of my Blue Monday at Smiling Sally's post. This morning we left for Sunday School with two healthy kids. However, for the past two weeks DD has been fighting a cough and a recurring fever and the doctors don't know what's causing it. So, after Sunday School we notice that DD is starting to run a fever again up to 103. So, to the E.R. we go. They're going to try some new antibiotics on her but she needs prayer to get over this mess, whatever it could be.

So to start with my Blue Monday contribution this week is my Sunday School Bulletin board that DD and I decorated this morning. I figure this will last through February and then we can change it to something more Spring-ish.

Next, the way we spent this Sunday afternoon. DD in the E.R. - yeah, you can tell I was bored while waiting for doctors.

She loves to cuddle with daddy when sick.

Just back from getting x-rays - gotta love those hospital gowns.

Goodwill, Garage Sales and S-P-A-M

MellowYellowMondayBadge

I'm including this post as part of Mellow Yellow Monday because of the pretty yellow flowers on the skirt I found for DD.

So I guess my blog is getting around the web a little bit because today I got my first s-p-a-m-m-e-r - don't you love it.

Yesterday while on the hunt for Zhu Zhu Pets (this hamster manhunt is crazy) I stopped at the Goodwill store. When I first walked in my jaw about hit the floor and I felt like a treasure hunter who had finally hit gold. See when I'm out looking around you can bet there are a few things on my list - NES games, old smurfs and Pyrex. Yesterday I hit the motherload of NES games. However, the elusive Paperboy still escaped me and has not been added to my collection yet. For $22 I ended up with all this. The Cinderella bubble clock will go in the Christmas closet for DD.

Then on the way home I stopped by the store to get my daily fix of Dr. Pepper and saw a sign advertising a garage sale for today. So this morning DH and I got up and drove down the road to check it out. While out we found a couple more garage sales also. Not a big haul since most people are post-poneing the garage sales until after the holidays but I did find a few things.

This isn't the new one as you may be aware LOL but figured it would be an interesting watch - $2

Found this skirt for DD - .50

This little lady is also a bell and she cost a mere $2

Happy Thrifting all!!

Halloween Clearances

So yesterday I bravely left the house for the first time since I came down with this virus/flu that I had. My strength still isn't up to par but wanted to hit the mega sale again. My first stop though was Target where the Halloween stuff was marked down to 75% off and almost gone. I did end up with all of this and minus two $3 coupons for the dog food my total came up to $11.97

My next stop was K-Mart where their Halloween stuff was also 75% off except the candy which was 50% off. They also had a sale on their clearance shoes - take an additional 50% off already clearanced prices. So I ended up getting DS two pairs of shoes for $5.99 a pair. My total for K-Mart ended up $29 and this was my haul.

I don't have a picture of my Kroger receipt but my total was around $24 and my total savings was 70%.

Happy Thrifting

ps - the ice-chest wasn't purchased at the clearance sales - just in my way and used as a prop for the pics - LOL

Target, Kroger and Birthdays O'My

Sorry I've been quite again - this time of year finds me busily scouting isles for the best bargains on Christmas presents, preparing for two birthdays, two holidays, and catching the occasional Mega-Sale.

I hit Target Friday and found a couple of things on clearance not to mention spending my Rayovac coupons for some free batteries from the Dollar Spot. I did find a couple things on the clearance racks.

Found DD this sweater for $2.48 - so I thought until I got home and realized I must have been looking at the tag for something else and actually paid $14.99

I found this pillow for $5.48 - the picture doesn't do it much justice because it's so shiny IRL

This weekend was DS's birthday party. They grow up so fast. Happy Birthday Bubba.
